Each day millions of people walk among ancient
wonders, and easily brush by the very sustenance of life, the plants, that tower above them, that fold underfoot, that feed
their hunger, fill their lungs, and delight their senses. It is the most amazing of moments, to stop and
take notice of something as familiar as a flower, a branch, a seed – and wonder over the gift of it.
"This is the best field trip I have ever been on!" 1st Grade Student, October, 2008
The Quad City Botanical Center is asking for your continued
support of our efforts to provide the best educational experience possible, by giving generously to our 2008-2009 Annual Fund
Drive.
With your help we can reach our goal of $80,000.00 in funding.
These funds go directly toward payment of our utilities and other growing operational expenses. The Botanical Center
is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization, funded by your donations, and not supported by tax dollars. Donations
to the Quad City Botanical Center are tax deductible.
Historically, and in keeping with the mission,
the Quad City Botanical Center has directed the attention of thousands of students, from all walks of life to the endless
wonder of the natural world, while providing a living exhibit of life sustaining green energy, in the shape of an outstanding
cultural and educational visitor’s destination. Over the past calendar year, the gates that open
onto our gardens and grounds have opened the minds and imaginations of over 30,000 students, tourist and leisure visitors,
and community members celebrating life among our gardens.
What wonderment brings us to the gardens? What
pleasure do we find there that makes us easily forget that without plants, we perish? Indeed, a garden
offers nothing short of wonder! Patients heal quicker, when provided with just so much as a window with
a view to a beautiful garden. Children with attention disorders find focus in a grove or wooded lot, outside
and away from electronic screens. Fruits, vegetables, drinks, spices, shelter, medicine, scents, salves,
and oxygen, these are just a few of the gifts from the vast gardens of the world.
What secrets remain to be unearthed?
The Cherokee tell a story from long ago, of unrest between the animals and the humans and the animal’s plan to
render the humans powerless through sickness and disease. The animals seemed likely to succeed, all except for the promise
of the plant world that a remedy for every ill lies hidden in the physiology of the plants of every region. How
wonderful, that perhaps we have only just discovered part of the purpose of plants.
With Kindest Regards, Ami Jenkins, Executive Director Quad City Botanical Center
